Part of the UK and Ireland’s largest sign company, Signs Express (Gateshead), was delighted this week after receiving national recognition in the Sign Excellence Awards at this year’s Signs Express Convention.
Malcolm Lant owner of Signs Express (Gateshead) was named a finalist in the Best Sign Project category for their work completed for Gateshead Colleges’ new £60 million quayside campus buildings.
In-keeping with the building’s impressive cutting edge design, Malcolm and his highly skilled team produced vibrant and contemporary signage systems including stove enameled silver lettering, light boxes and full colour window manifestations. All signage incorporated the clever use of tamper resistant materials – the first and only large scale sign project in the UK to use Nextel Suede paint.
Gateshead College was delighted with the results and this partnership has been influential to the sights and culture for the students in Gateshead. Commenting on his nomination Malcolm said; ‘I am delighted to have been selected in this category, it is a fantastic achievement for both myself and the whole team at the centre.
The prestigious awards ceremony is a part of the Signs Express bi-annual convention, which this year marked the 20th anniversary for the group. Held at De Vere Dunston Hall, Norwich, the convention weekend consists of seminars and a supplier’s forum, giving the franchisees from the UK and Ireland a perfect opportunity to catch up with key suppliers, learn about new business initiatives and to have a first look at new products to hit the market.
Judges of the Best Sign Project award commented on how difficult their job was made by the extremely high standard of entries this year. Malcolm and his team have created fantastic looking, inspirational signage in a place of learning.
Special recognition also went to Malcolm on his promotional work for a recent Blur concert in conjunction with O2. The unusual brief was to link the O2 phone shop in Newcastle City Centre, with the O2 Academy half a mile away, for a promotional giveaway of concert tickets.
Malcolm, with his ‘can do’ philosophy took on this challenging task with fantastic results. His team completed over 800 metres of white anti-slip line markings applied to the pavements running across the city. The project proved to be a great success and the London based O2 office were delighted with the work and the overwhelming response they had to the promotional giveaway.
