As an already established signage company, Signs Express (Southampton) is now under the ownership of Mark Kendall - an entrepreneur looking for a new venture with the stability of franchising.
Mark worked for the aluminium and stainless steel industry for most of his working life – but earlier this year he decided to go into business. The aim was to find an opportunity with a secure structure in place and a firm foothold within the B2B sector. Mark has now taken hold of the reins of an existing franchise which has been trading since 2002.
Mark commented on their decision on franchising and joining Signs Express: “There were a number of factors which influenced my decision, one being the idea of a ready made business without the issues normally faced by a new start up. I'd already decided on being B2B led but once I had seen the Signs Express stand at the South Coast Franchise Exhibition and talked to Tony Marsh [sales and marketing director] and Peer the previous franchisee, we realised the massive potential within the sign industry. Just driving home from the exhibition and seeing the hundreds of signs all around made us realise what potential there was.”
However, Mark didn’t take the decision lightly and ensured that he did research by visiting a few other Signs Express sites including head office, as well as other signage franchises. “Our research really helped us to confirm we were making the right decision,” added Mark. “You can’t fail to be impressed with the business model. The team has been great and we’ve been made to feel so welcome that we already feel like we’ve been part of Signs Express for years.”
The Southampton centre is one of three existing centres to be under new ownership. Glenn and Danny Pickersgill have also recently taken over Signs Express (South Durham) along with a new owner at a successful Scottish centre which will be announced in the coming weeks; a brand new franchise will also be opening near Enniskillen in Ireland.
In today’s economy, starting in business could be considered as a gamble, however, by careful planning and diligence on behalf of the franchisor, the Signs Express business model is continuing to provide a stable package for new and already established centres.
As part of the UK and Ireland’s leading signs and graphics company, Signs Express (Southampton) provides a complete design, manufacture and installation service for all forms of signage including interior/exterior signs, vehicle graphics, exhibition and display products, window graphics and health and safety signage for businesses in Southampton and surrounding areas.
