After receiving a plea for scrap materials from St Leonard’s Primary in Exeter, Signs Express (Exeter) were keen to help.
Teachers and governors were enthusiastic to brighten up the school for the summer term and encourage participation from the pupils with one of the ideas being the creation of wall games in the playground.
Signs Express (Exeter) provided a wide range of coloured vinyls and sign making materials to enable the pupils to put their own creative stamp on the area.
The wall games were just one new development at the school grounds. Parents and volunteers were put to task over the Easter holidays to provide raised beds, extend the playground, turn an overgrown flower bed into bark chippings play area and paint playground markings.
Marion Baxter-Sibley, co-owner of Signs Express (Exeter) said; “Its been a fantastic opportunity to support our local community. Using small off cuts of material, the children are able to use their creative flair and artistic skills to cut out shapes and decorate the area, making their own games to play. Its added a real splash of colour and fun to the project.”
The arts and crafts project has been such a success that year 6 pupils also want to leave their mark before moving up to senior school in September. Once they have finished their SATs, the pupils are planning to make some large mini beasts and local wildlife collages to put up around some of the school walls.
Signs Express (Exeter) provides a wide range of signs and graphics services for businesses in the Exeter area and has been established for over 15 years.
