Signs Express (Southampton) received a double honour at the Signs Express Awards Ceremony held Friday 8th November at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Derby. The experienced sign making team were rewarded for the work they completed with Southampton University, along with being recognised in the Productivity awards.
With 70 Signs Express centres across the UK and Ireland, Signs Express (Southampton) beat off some stiff competition to be shortlisted as finalists in two categories at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Their work with Southampton University saw them become finalists in the Best Exterior Sign category for a project to produce a 2 metre high number ‘60’ for the university’s ‘60@60’ celebrations. The giant number 60 was to be temporarily situated in the grounds of the campus and serious consideration had to be taken into account regarding health and safety concerns for the students and staff as it was not to be a permanent fixture. Signs Express (Southampton) resolved these concerns by both chemically and mechanically fixing the ‘60’ to a plinth, making it a stable and safe, yet removable structure. The finished result was a striking, oversized sculpture in vibrant blue and one we are sure will be remembered over time by students, staff and locals alike.
Signs Express (Southampton) were also finalists in the Productivity Award. As a small team of just six, Signs Express (Southampton) has performed amazingly well in recently completing an enormous and logistically challenging City Cruise Terminal refurbishment for Associated British Ports, one of their biggest local customers. The project involved the removal and installation of over 200 signs in just an eight week period. To complicate matters further, the Signs Express (Southampton) team had to work around the Cruise Ship schedule for installation to make sure minimum disruption was created.
Rebecca Dack, Signs Express Marketing manager, commented: “Signs Express Southampton has done a fantastic job on both the projects they were shortlisted for in our Awards Ceremony. We’re delighted to present them with this accolade and look forward to seeing their success develop throughout 2014.”
