The British Signs & Graphics Association helps judge Signs Express’ top sign projects at this year’s Sign Excellence awards.
The annual Sign Excellence awards held by Signs Express gives all franchisees throughout the UK and Ireland the opportunity to be fully recognised for their individual achievements. With over 75 centres nationwide, competition was tough for the signs and graphics specialists and therefore increasingly important that they put forward the very best and most innovative designs and installation projects from the past year.
The awards, which were split into four main categories – Interior, Exterior, Vehicle and Project – were independently judged by British Sign & Graphics Association (BSGA) director David Catanach and Sign Directions’ magazine editor Val Hirst. “We were really impressed by the spread and scope of some of the entries,” said Val, “and particularly by the fact that some of the smaller individual Signs Express centres can obviously compete very effectively against some of the larger sign makers in their areas.”
Celebrating this year’s Best Interior Sign Award was Martin Prodger at Signs Express (Reading) for his team’s work to install interior individual illuminated 3D letters to back painted glass panels at Harris Systems’ new European HQ. The judges could relate to its complexity and the challenge it would have been to achieve. Second place was awarded to Signs Express (Sheffield) for its work with Gordon Audio Visual and third place was given to Signs Express (Glasgow) for its work with The Glasgow Science Centre.
The Best Exterior Sign Award went to Ian Charles at Signs Express (Grantham) for the design and build of an exterior totem sign for the Nottingham Regeneration project. The sign was given exceptional praise from the judges being described as their ‘absolute favourite! Attractive, well conceived and totally at home in its surroundings’. Signs Express (Crawley) was awarded second place for its work with Manor Royal and Signs Express (Exeter) in third place for its monolith exterior sign at Edginswell Park.
The Best Vehicle Award was given to Steve McMurray at Signs Express (Falkirk) for his team’s vehicle wrapping skills to create eye-catching vehicle livery for Gemini Supplies. Also in the running was, Signs Express (Derry) who took second place for its Simulator project as well as Signs Express (Peterborough) announced as third for its vehicle graphics for Concept Smoke.
Finally in the Best Project Award category, Jim Gifford at Signs Express (Aberdeen) was recognised for his team’s hard work providing over 120 interior and exterior signs for the Trinity Shopping Centre. Jim and his team beat off competition from Signs Express (Exeter) for its work for Exeter City Football Club and Signs Express (Glasgow) for its second award nomination for The Glasgow Science Centre.
