The convention, which was based around the theme 'working together', consisted of seminars and speakers during the day followed by an awards dinner and evening entertainment. The Glasgow sign makers, who fought off strong competition from over 70 nationwide Signs Express centres, were delighted with their place as finalists. Signs Express (Glasgow) entered their work with Cordia Eastbank. The client was looking to upgrade their catering offering within the Eastbank Academy in Glasgow. As the pupils excel at art, it was decided to call the new facility "The Gallery". The Glasgow sign makers were asked to offer their expertise to help develop a facility that the school would be proud of and that would encourage the pupils to eat healthily within the cafeteria rather than visiting local fast food outlets. An internal project team was set up to achieve the desired result. Multiple signage and graphics were installed; however the star feature was the development of unique interchangeable frames to display the artwork of the pupils. Graham Casey, owner of Signs Express (Glasgow) commented: 'Our client and the school were delighted with the end result, so much so they thought we should apply for a patent for the frames we had created.' The judges were extremely impressed by the dedication and creative thinking of the Glasgow team, and awarded them with their place as finalists. Signs Express (Glasgow) has an extensive production centre which was established in May 1995. Due to the dedication of all members of the team the business has expanded and now operates from a 6,000 ft custom built unit. In 2009 the business was taken over by Graham who, along with his team, ensures that every customer receives consistently good customer service and high quality products.
