Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has unveiled a new look fire engine to highlight firefighters’ partnership work with the Tamworth Dementia Action Alliance, Tamworth Borough Council and Alzheimer’s Society.
The specially designed artwork was expertly applied to an appliance from Tamworth Belgrave Community Fire Station by Signs Express Stoke after the Service joined forces with the organisations to work towards making Tamworth a Dementia Friendly Community. Working alongside Bold & Bold graphic designers, Signs Express adapted the provided artwork to fit the appliance and made the graphics using digitally printed vinyl with a vehicle-grade laminate. In total, the project took three days to print and install. Station Manager Martin Weaver said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to team up with these organisations and show our continued support to making Tamworth a Dementia friendly community. The crews have really embraced the updated training and will use their work in the community as an opportunity to help support this very worthy cause. “So keep an eye out for the newly decorated truck and if you see the crew carrying out prevention work in the community ask us about the support available for those suffering with dementia and Alzheimer’s.” Craig Tiley, director of Signs Express Stoke was pleased to be part of the project to bring awareness to the organisations involved. “It’s great to be involved in projects like this where we’re making a difference to the local community. Placing graphics like this onto a vehicle like this appliance will certainly catch the eye of passers-by and by spreading the awareness of this awful disease.” All of the staff from the Tamworth station are receiving refresher Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness training and will be handing out literature to give residents more information and advice on the support available for those suffering with these diseases. Sharon Wright, Alzheimer’s Society Services Manager for Staffordshire said: “We are delighted that the fire service are championing Dementia and making a positive difference for people living with Dementia in Tamworth. This work will raise awareness of the dementia support services Alzheimer’s Society has in the area and we look forward to seeing the appliance on the roads."
