Scarborough TEC puts their own brand on a historic building
When Scarborough TEC, North Yorkshire’s newest provider of Further and Higher Education, moved into its new campus, the team needed help bringing the college’s fresh brand to life across the site. They contacted Signs Express (Scarborough) to manage the full signage package, making sure the look and feel stayed consistent from one building to the next.

Our Approach
We started with a site survey at the old Hull University building, taking measurements, photos, and notes on how best to apply the new identity. With a project timeline of almost six months, we held regular meetings with the college team to plan each phase and keep everything running smoothly.
Our aim was to make the process as simple as possible for the client — clear updates, quick responses, and everything completed on time.
The first stage
- Refurbishment of the dining area signage.
- Internal branding for the college hair salon.
- Around 60 door nameplates and directional signs.
- A range of external signs around the site.
Every sign was made to match the new Scarborough TEC colours and style, creating a joined-up, professional look across the campus.
The second stage
The second phase focused on the college’s official opening day. Highlights included:
- Reverse-printed acrylic panels showcasing biographies of former students who have gone on to become celebrity chefs.
- A stainless-steel commemorative plaque unveiled at the ceremony.
- A large acrylic display at the theatre entrance.
- Banners and vinyl graphics featuring students in action across different courses.
- Window graphics to complete the exterior look.
Most artwork came directly from the Scarborough TEC design team, but we collaborated closely on layout and production to make sure each piece worked perfectly.
Challenges and Solutions
All installation took place during term time. Because our fitters are fully trained and qualified, with experience working in live education settings, the work went ahead safely and without disruption.
We completed detailed risk assessments before every stage to ensure compliance and peace of mind for the college team.
Outcome
The finished signage transformed the campus, giving students, staff, and visitors a clear sense of place.
Although Scarborough TEC don’t issue public supplier statements, their team were thrilled with the results and the smooth delivery of such a large project. We’ve since been asked to support ongoing work for future site extensions — a great sign of trust and satisfaction.
