OUR WORK
RNIB
In 2012, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) started looking for a new company to manufacture their unique product, the ‘RNIB Map for All’. These tactile maps had been in development for years and needed a supplier who could meet high standards for accuracy, durability, and accessibility.
After meeting with several signage companies, Sue King, RNIB’s Tactile Maps and Images Consultant, chose Anne Hitch and her team at Signs Express (Peterborough & King’s Lynn) to take on the job.

Project overview
The Map for All is designed to be read through both sight and touch. Each map combines raised tactile detail with clear visual print, giving blind, partially sighted, and sighted visitors the same access to key information.
They’re used in public spaces such as museums, gardens, art galleries, and railway stations. One of the latest projects was for Birmingham New Street Station, a large and complex location where accessible information is essential.
A collaborative approach
From the start, Anne worked closely with Sue to refine the way the maps were produced. RNIB had struggled in the past to find a signage company willing to adjust their manufacturing process to suit the product’s needs.
The outcome
Since then, the relationship between RNIB and Signs Express has continued to grow. Our team now produces accurate braille and tactile signage that meets RNIB’s strict standards and helps people navigate public spaces safely and confidently. RNIB has also commissioned Anne to carry out signage audits on their behalf — a real sign of trust and confidence in her expertise in braille and tactile design.
