A long-established family business in Exeter has taken a bold step into the future by joining forces with the UK’s largest signs and graphics network. Earlier this year, following the retirement of the previous owners of Signs Express (Exeter), local brother-and-sister team Mike Back and Diane Moore, owners of KBS Signs, officially took the reins, completing the network’s first-ever franchise rebrand.

KBS Signs, a trusted name in the local signage industry since 1960, had been a proudly family-run business for over six decades. Now trading as Signs Express (Exeter), the company is ushering in a new era of growth and opportunity, combining deep-rooted local knowledge with the nationwide support of the Signs Express network.

“Both Mike and I have been in the signage industry for over 35 years,” says Diane. “We saw this as an exciting opportunity to evolve while staying true to our roots. The rebrand gives us the best of both worlds, maintaining our local presence while benefiting from the infrastructure, resources and support of a national brand.”

Since completing the transition, the team has experienced a surge in demand, streamlined operations with new technology, and received enthusiastic feedback from both existing and new customers. From operational mentoring to digital marketing support, the Franchise Support Centre has played a key role in helping the business navigate the changeover smoothly.

One major development has been the adoption of new system CoreBridge, the franchise’s new business management platform, which has helped automate and optimise internal workflows. “It’s already making a real difference,” says Diane. “We’re able to respond faster, manage projects more efficiently and have full visibility of our team’s work.”

Customer enquiries have nearly doubled since the rebrand, highlighting the strong recognition and trust that comes with the Signs Express name. What’s more, Diane and Mike are already expanding their team and exploring new opportunities to serve a growing base of clients across Exeter and beyond.

Balancing the new Signs Express identity with their own heritage has been a seamless and well-received journey. “We’re getting great feedback from both sides, our loyal customers and those who previously worked with the original Signs Express team. Everyone sees the benefit of us combining strengths.”

As they look ahead to the next 12 months, the Signs Express (Exeter) team is focused on continued growth, enhancing their digital presence, and making the most of the tools and support now available to them. “It’s been busy, a bit crazy, but absolutely brilliant,” Diane laughs. “And we’re only just getting started.”
