Free-hanging flexible screen for Plymouth Gin
As a valued customer of Signs Express Plymouth, when Plymouth Gin contacted us in need of a signage solution, we were more than happy to help!
The Plymouth Gin Distillery is England’s oldest working distillery, making Plymouth Gin since 1793 using the original recipe. They now offer tours and hospitality in their home of the historical Black Friars distillery, which used to be a monastery.
What was the problem?
They needed a flexible screen to conceal a storage area under a flight of stairs – the brief was clear, it needed to:
- Be flexible;
- Allow easy access to items stored behind it;
- Be branded;
- Be aesthetically pleasing and enhance the space;
- Not be fixed by drilling because the building is listed;
- Only be fixed from the top;
What solution did we come up with?
The solution we proposed was a pair of bespoke printed banners, as these could happily meet all aspects of the brief. But far from an ‘out of the box’ solution, they required precise measurements and design to ensure they’d be just right.
The first aspect of their bespoke design was the shape – designed and cut to an irregular quadrilateral and measured to fit exactly into the space where none of the angles or sides were parallel. The second was deciding on the type of fixings that would be both invisible and avoid the need for any drilling. We chose magnetic fixings, installed behind the banner in the staircase structure. We chose a Metamark banner material to create the freely hanging flexible faces that would allow central easy access to the space behind.
What was the result?
Ian and Sam did a great job, as always; the finished sign looks professional, is of high quality and meets the customer’s brief. Happily, it sits amongst a variety of other signage we have recently provided, and Harriet Dailey, Hospitality Supervisor at Plymouth Gin left us this lovely review:
