Spinningfields
Working on the Spinningfields Winter Bar and Ice Rink was one of those projects that really sticks with you. It’s right in the centre of Manchester, so everything we installed was going to be seen by thousands of people over the festive season. When the organisers asked if we could help with the hoardings, box office signs and a few other pieces, we jumped straight in.

Our input to the design and materials
The space needed to feel warm and exciting but still smart enough to fit in with Spinningfields’ style. We printed and fitted full-colour panels around the rink and box office using the existing framework. Once the hoardings were in place, the whole area immediately felt brighter and more inviting.
While we were there, we also worked with the team from Flannels, whose new designer store sits just beside the rink. They wanted something eye-catching for the windows while the shop fit-out was underway, so our in-house designers created the artwork with their marketing manager. We used one-way vision vinyl, printed in bold colours, so people could see the graphics from the outside but still get daylight inside.
Project Highlights
One of the highlights of the project was fitting a temporary light box for The Lodge Winter Bar. Once it was switched on, the glow really brought the whole area to life after dark. We also made a set of freestanding advertising totems that tied in perfectly with the main “Let’s Skate” branding.
Outcome
Jobs like this remind you how much impact the right signage can have. It wasn’t just about putting up panels and lights — it was about creating atmosphere. By the time the ice rink opened, the whole site felt transformed, and seeing families enjoying it made all the late nights worth it.
