Client Needs
When the team at Signs Express Leeds were asked to create signage for Celebrity Edge, we knew it was going to be something special. Voted Best New Ship back in 2019, it deserved signage that matched that same level of detail and quality.
The project came to us through the Glasgow marketing agency Front Page, who were working on behalf of Celebrity Cruises. They wanted something visually striking to complete the promotional setup. A centrepiece that passengers would instantly recognise the moment they stepped through the cruise terminal.

Our Input to the Design & Materials
Our main focus was a freestanding illuminated logo, designed to make a statement the second you saw it. The finished piece stood 2.3 metres tall and 1.8 metres wide, so it had real presence.
We wanted the logo to do more than just light up, it had to feel premium. To achieve that, we engineered a “floating” effect for the word Celebrity. It sounds simple, but making letters appear to hover above the rest of the sign took a bit of thinking. We used 10mm etched acrylic, lit from the edges, to give a clean glow without visible fixings.
One of the key requirements was flexibility. The cruise terminal hosted several different operators, so the sign had to be easy to move when needed. Our solution was to design it in two parts. The top section simply lifted off, allowing the sign to be dismantled and reassembled quickly.
Behind the scenes, it was all supported by a strong aluminium subframe with powder-coated returns for durability. For illumination, we used 6000K LEDs for a bright, crisp, and neutral white and to avoid the yellow warmth that can sometimes clash with corporate branding.
The result was something sleek, robust, and practical enough to handle a complex event schedule without compromising on appearance.

Project Highlights
The freestanding sign was the star of the show, but it wasn’t the only element we produced. Our team also created:
- 80 Foamex display boards
- 20 roller banners
- 24 gloss posters
- 19 projecting banners and flags
- 20 sets of window graphics
Every single piece followed the same high standard, keeping the overall look cohesive across all touchpoints.

Outcome
Working to a tight deadline, we handled every stage in-house, from design and production through to installation. The collaboration with Front Page ran smoothly, and it was clear from the start that everyone wanted the same thing: something that would really stand out.
And it did. When the sign was unveiled, the reaction was immediate. Passengers stopped to take photos, and even the terminal staff commented on how it transformed the space.
