When Preston College decided to overhaul its external signage, they asked us at Signs Express (Central Lancashire) to take it on. We’ve worked with plenty of local education sites before, so we knew the kind of planning a project like this needed.

Project overview
The first job was a full survey. We walked the campus, photographed every existing sign, and made notes on what worked and what didn’t. After that came a few meetings with the estates team to agree on layouts, fixing points, and the best materials to handle the weather up here in Lancashire.
Once everything was signed off, we built a full signage schedule covering every position on site. That turned into a programme of works running through the summer break — the only window available before students came back.
Our approach
Our team manufactured everything in-house, more than 45 new signs in total. That included wall-mounted panels, freestanding totems, and directional signs to guide people between departments. We also removed the old ones and took care of disposal, so the site stayed tidy throughout.
Installation ran smoothly. Working while the college was quiet meant we could move freely around campus and get it all finished before the new term began.
The Result
By September, the site looked completely refreshed. The new signs are clear, consistent, and make the campus easier to navigate. They also tie in perfectly with the college’s current branding and give the entrances a professional finish.
