Eye catching vinyl at the Hacienda
When Glimpse Creative in Preston got in touch about some branding work at the Hacienda building in Manchester, we were all excited. The building is a part of Manchester’s story, and it’s not every day you get to work on something that iconic.
The brief sounded simple at first — apply new branding visuals to the front windows. But of course, with a building that has a very distinctive look, whatever we added had to look like it belonged.

Client Needs
We met with the team at Glimpse to go through their design ideas and talk about how it could actually work on the glass. The goal was to make something bold enough to catch the eye, but subtle enough not to fight with the original architecture.
After a few ideas and samples, we all agreed that internally applied full-colour vinyl window graphics would be the best way forward. It gave us great colour reproduction and meant the artwork would stay protected from the weather — something that’s always a consideration with Manchester rain.
Challenges and solutions
This kind of job is all about precision. The windows aren’t huge, but there are a lot of them, and they all have to line up perfectly. One off by a few millimetres, and the whole design looks wrong.
We did detailed measurements first, double-checked the spacing, and made sure the print alignment worked across the full set. The printing was done at our Preston production centre, then our fitting team went down to Manchester for the installation.
Everything was applied from the inside, which meant working carefully around reflections and interior fittings, but it came together perfectly in the end.
The Outcome
Once the graphics were up, the difference was immediate. The building kept its character but now had this modern, creative edge to it. The colours worked really well — bold, but still in keeping with the location.
You could see people stopping to look at it while we were still finishing up, which is always a good sign that it’s doing what it’s supposed to.
The whole thing was a real team effort between Glimpse Creative and us here at Signs Express Central Lancashire. They handled the creative direction; we made sure it worked technically and looked right on-site.
