Signs Express (Central Lancashire) salute our heroes
As we remember the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Signs Express (Central Lancashire) worked alongside a voluntary service named 'Dig In', who support and assist veterans once they have left the forces. They have a walled garden, considered a 'safe haven' by many, in which they retreat to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers whilst enjoying the company of others and a brew or two.
The signs created will be put on some of the planters that a team of veterans from Dig In are building to go next to local war memorials. Given some of the experiences that the armed forces personnel have had, it is only natural that some will come back with some emotional challenges. As they leave the forces, and try to reintegrate back into civilian life, these challenges can become more significant. However, the three things that they all have are a phenomenal set of skills, a work ethic second to none and a desire to serve their community. At Dig In these are the things that we focus on. Our veterans are enjoying learning a new skill and in addition they are creating something that is their way of saying thank you to those that have gone before and fallen. It is a way of them feeling part of a larger band of brothers, and paying their personal respect to them. Donna Rowe-Green, Founder and Senior Horticultural Therapist at Dig In North West CIC commented: 'These signs were designed with the help of Matt Rutlidge from Signs Express (Central Lancashire). We provided the basic idea and he brought it to life. He knew it had to reflect the respect appropriate to this project, and really took that on board. We are delighted with the resulting signs, and are grateful to Matt and Signs Express (Central Lancashire) for the thought and attention given to the design and outcome.'
