Signage upgrade at Oaks Hospital

Following a series of successful projects at The Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth, Signs Express (Harlow) were invited to review and upgrade the signage throughout Oaks Hospital, part of the Ramsay Healthcare UK group. The goal was simple: modernise the signage while keeping every element consistent with the group’s established brand guidelines.

Project Overview

Because both hospitals are part of the same network, it was important that the new signs at Oaks matched the clean, professional look of other Ramsay sites. To keep things consistent, we assigned the same project manager who led the Rivers Hospital project. Working closely with the hospital team, we carried out a full audit of the existing signage, identified what needed replacing, and produced clear proposals with visuals and layout plans.

Our Solution

The first phase focused on internal areas. We replaced door signs, name slats, and CCTV notices using materials that matched Ramsay’s specification.

Next came the exterior improvements, including a full wayfinding and car park signage upgrade. We introduced new totems and panel-and-post systems to guide visitors easily around the site, along with designated signs for patient, consultant, and premier care parking.

At the hospital entrance, we installed a clear acrylic achievement board and an in/out slider system for the leadership team — both practical and smart, reflecting the hospital’s professional image.

Challenges and Approach

Hospitals are busy, high-traffic environments, so all work had to be carried out safely and with minimal disruption to staff and patients.

Our planning allowed installations to be scheduled around quieter times, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Maintaining visual consistency across multiple sites within a national healthcare group also required careful colour matching and material coordination — something our in-house production team managed precisely.
