25 Boutique had a total signage makeover to get ready for the unveiling of a blue plaque for Hannah Snell; Britain's most famous female soldier.
On Monday, May 21 at noon, a blue plaque was unveiled in Worcester for Britain's most famous female soldier. Hannah Snell who was born in Worcester, disguised herself as a man to enter the military in 1742. She fought in numerous battles, survived a flogging and suffered a musket ball injury, carrying out surgery on herself to keep her secret before being discovered, given an honorary discharge and a pension. With Hannah Snell's incredible story and courage, a blue plaque was to be positioned on Friar Street outside 25 Boutique. A blue plaque is a brilliant scheme which started in London in the nineteenth century whereby homes and workplaces of famous people were showcased. The only other blue plaque in the city devoted to a woman is in honour of Miss Ottley. Phil Douce, chairman of Worcester Civic Society, said:
With such an amazing history, it can be understood why 25 Boutique wanted to look their best before an honorary plaque was placed outside their shop. Having produced the original signs for 25 Boutique, we were the first port of call for their new look for the shop. A bold, contemporary design was chosen for a hanging sign and window graphics for this historical building at 25 Friar Street, Worcester.
The blue plaque was presented by Amanda Houston, the great, great granddaughter of Hannah Snell, and Anthea Abbeyfield Worcester Crown Ladies Probus Group, sponsors of the plaque. The unveiling of the blue plaque was big talk of the town and has been mentioned across local news outlets and social media, meaning 25 Boutique's fresh new window graphics have been vastly shown off. They have used the benefits of having an eye-catching external shop sign to give their customers a great first impression and with them being visible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, its effect is continuous.
