Project overview
The store had been part of Clinton Cards for years, but when the company’s US parent, American Greetings, announced closures, Kevin saw an opportunity. After managing the shop for twelve years, he chose to take it on himself, giving the space a new name 'Taylors Cards' and a new lease of life.
Kevin wanted to put his own stamp on the place but didn’t have much experience with signage. Clinton’s head office, also based in Loughton, kindly recommended he get in touch with Signs Express (Harlow), and that’s where we came in.
Our brief was simple: create something that felt fresh and professional while keeping costs sensible by using what was already there.
Our approach
We came up with a modern fascia design that reused parts of the existing fittings. The new aluminium tray, just over three metres wide, was powder-coated to match Kevin’s chosen colour scheme. The name ‘Taylors Cards’ was stencil-cut into the fascia and backed with blue acrylic, giving it a subtle glow when lit from behind. Everything was fabricated to fit perfectly with the original backtray and light box.
The end result looked fantastic — a clean, welcoming shopfront that gave Kevin’s new business its own identity while nodding to the familiar space locals already knew.
