Wythall Museum

We recently worked with The Transport Museum in Wythall, just south of Birmingham. The museum has a brilliant collection of old buses and electric vehicles, some dating back generations. They’ve been carrying out a big round of improvements, helped by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund – almost a million pounds in total.

Project overview

Our team at Signs Express Birmingham SW were asked to help bring a bit of that heritage to life with bespoke signage. The aim was to keep everything in line with the museum’s traditional feel, using classic typefaces and colours that suited the era of the vehicles on display. We produced signs that looked as though they’d always been there, even though they were made with modern, long-lasting materials.

Outcome

It’s always a great feeling working on projects like this – where craft meets history. Seeing those signs in place among the restored buses and displays really shows how design, even something as simple as a sign, can add to the whole visitor experience.

I contacted Signs express and they talked me through a few different price options and discussed my requirements. they pointed out that part of what I wanted would require the use of vinal wrap and explained why. they then sent me some ideas of what my van would look like. I requested to change a couple of bits and very quickly we had designed exactly what I was looking for. I proof checked it and got booked in for fitting. I dropped the van off in the morning and it was ready for collection in the afternoon, looking exactly how I wanted it. I highly recommend signs express, the whole process was excellent.
