Client Needs
The Worcester Cathedral Ferry team approached Signs Express Worcester to request signage support for Doris, the historic passenger ferry that crosses the River Severn between the Water Gate and Chapter Meadow. As the ferry was preparing for the busy spring/summer season, the team needed clear and weather-resistant signage to inform passengers, enhance visibility, and improve the ferry’s overall presence. The initiative was part of an ongoing effort to revive and modernise this much-loved community service, while preserving its historic charm.
The expectation was to deliver signage that was functional, durable, and respectful of the historic context of Worcester Cathedral and the surrounding area.
Solution Provided
Signs Express Worcester designed, produced, and donated a series of high-quality signs to meet the needs of the ferry service. The signage included:
- Informational panels installed at the ferry landings.
- Branded signs featuring the Doris ferry name and service details.
- Vinyl graphics mounted onto freshly painted marine-grade backboards to ensure durability and visual appeal.
The signage was created to be easily visible, legible from a distance, and able to withstand weather and water exposure.

Project Highlights
The community-centric nature of the ferry, with all proceeds going to running costs and local charities, made this a particularly rewarding project for us.
