OUR WORK
It's Bespoke all the way for The Guildhall
The Worcester Tourist Information Centre sits right at the front of the Guildhall; a Grade I listed building in the city centre. The brief was straightforward but sensitive: they needed new signage that would help visitors find the TIC easily, without fighting against the character of the building. Anything too modern or heavy-handed would look wrong on such an historic frontage.

Project Overview
We handled the project from initial ideas through to final installation. That included on-site discussions, measuring up, design layouts, liaising with a local craftsman and then fitting the finished pieces.
From the start, the aim was to keep things simple, readable and in tune with the architecture. The signs had to do their job, direct people to the Tourist Information Centre, while feeling like a natural part of the Guildhall, not an afterthought screwed to the wall.
We used traditional-looking sign panels and brackets, sized and positioned carefully so they sat comfortably within the existing stonework and detailing. Typography, colours and layout were kept clean and uncluttered.
Challenges and solutions
Working on a listed building always brings a bit of extra thought. We had to consider fixing points carefully, avoid damaging historic fabric and make sure the scale of the signs was right when viewed from street level. Balancing visibility for visitors with respect for the Guildhall’s architecture was the main challenge, and it led to several small tweaks along the way to get it just right.
We worked in partnership with a local iron and woodwork craftsman. Traditional materials and hand-finished details were combined with our knowledge of modern sign making, so the result looks authentic but will also stand up to the weather and day-to-day use. Brackets, timber and finishes were all chosen to age well and sit comfortably against the existing façade.
Outcome
The new signage is clear enough to guide visitors, but it doesn’t overwhelm the building. It feels calm, well-proportioned and appropriate to its setting, exactly what the Tourist Information Centre were hoping for.
From our point of view, this was a rewarding job. It brought together design, problem solving and hands-on craft on a really special building. If you’re working with a heritage site or a sensitive location and need signage that fits in rather than takes over, we’re always happy to talk through our signage solutions.
